I have a vanguard nomad, it is 17' and I love it, I sail it on a good size lake in Texas and it is the perfect way to spend an afternoon, it is very handy and being a novice sailor it has taught me alot. I would like to hear from other vanguard nomads.

Eleven-tenths
Well, we finally managed to capsize the Nomad. We were sailing upwind, making for the lee of the shore so we could have lunch. The winds were variable, the sun was out, and I had let a less experienced sailor take the helm. We were in a space of relative calm water, and he had cleated the mainsheet and just picked up a drink when a gust hit. As we raced for the gunwhale he brought the tiller with him moving the boat further across the wind.
Advice for a New Vanguard Nomad Owner?
Hello, everyone! First off, a big thanks to everyone who has posted about their experiences with the Vanguard Nomad in this forum over the years (Especially you, Bob Ames! How cool that the designer of the boat is active in the community). This forum was a valuable resource in helping me determine the best boat for me. Hopefully, that turns out to be the Nomad because I'm now the proud owner of a 2004, sail number 216.
New Owner - Sails Available at North Sails
Just purchased a 2005 Nomad. Looking forward to getting it in the water. I'm going to be sailing it in MA coastal waters and keeping it on a mooring primarily.
I need a new jib so I contacted North Sails via phone. They have the original designs/specs and gave me prices for Dacron Jib ($340) and Main ($540). I ordered a jib, but won't have it for 8 weeks. I'll suffer with old one until then.
I also need a new GNAV car for the boom. These are available at Annapolis Performance Sail. Not cheap, but better than the hose clamp that is there now.

Rough first sailing experience
So I purchased my first sailboat this winter (vanguard nomad). I took some sailing lessons the past 3 summers and was very excited to get out on the water. Things, however, did not go well. I have to motor about 1/2 mile with my mast down to get past 2 low bridges. On my first sail I did this without removing the boom. I found out a bit late that this put too much pressure on the gooseneck and sheered the bolts off of it. First sail ended before it really began!
